Activists Prepare for Second Women’s March in DC on October 17

-

The District of Columbia will be witnessing the second edition of the Women’s March on Saturday, October 17, this time with a number of health measures against the spread of coronavirus.

All participants of this year’s march are required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Organizers promise to provide hand sanitizer stations throughout the march.

It is also forbidden to travel to the District from states that are on the city’s list of high-risk areas and require self-quarantining for two weeks upon arrival.

Those who are feeling ill are advised to join one of the virtual events, instead.

The crowd will start the march at Freedom Plaza in Northwest DC at 1 pm, continue down Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, loop around the Capitol Building and finalize it at around 3 pm on the National Mall, where there will be a “socially distant text-banking telethon” through 5 pm.

“We need a huge, and powerful mobilization to help energize the nation and inspire millions to turn out to vote – and you can help make that happen,” the organizers said in a release.

The organizers set a goal to send five million text messages throughout the weekend, encouraging citizens to go to the polls in November’s presidential election. The telethon at the Mall is part of the move.

Possible attendees can text ORGANIZE to 22422 to receive a link for downloading an app that will help them join the action and share it with their contacts.

“We saw the power when millions of us joined in the streets together the day after Trump’s inauguration. We need to bring that same power and determination to October 17 to cap off Trump’s presidency just the way it started — with massive, women-led resistance.”

The first Women’s March took place the day after President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

You can RSVP for the event here.
