London’s Dandelyan bar, which ranked first among the World’s 50 Best Bars winning the title of “World’s Best Bar” this year, will be launching a special pop-up version in Washington, D.C. on November 26 and 27.
Located in the Mondrian London hotel, the bar was launched by award-winning bartender Ryan Chetiyawardana in 2014. In 2015, the bar was noticed and appeared in The World’s 50 Best Bars list at number 50. In 2016, it jumped up to the 3rd spot, and in 2017 the bar moved up in the ranking, getting second spot in the list.
In D.C. the pop up will recreate the Dandelyan experience with “a menu designed around a ‘Modern Life of Plants’ concept that aims to explore industrialization and large-scale food systems.”
Mint, Grape, and Hops sections in the menu will have ingredients “ranging from moss vermouth to cream of snails.” Open to public on first come first serve basis, the pop-up will run from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
“I’ve always been attracted to capital cities and after a talk there a few months ago, I fell in love with the city and its bars and it felt very different to other U.S. cities I’d visited, so was really excited by some discussions we had with the bartenders there to come across and work together on something. The final pop-ups of Dandelyan seemed perfect!,” said Ryan Chetiyawardana, also known as Mr Lyan.
The farewell pop-up of Dandelyan will take place at The Gibson, 2009 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009. The event will also mark and celebrate the tenth anniversary of the bar.
