DC Ranks 15th Among Best Foodie Cities in US

-

Washington, D.C. has become 15th among the best foodie cities in America, according to the 2018 WalletHub rankings.

Over 180 cities in the country were compared by WalletHub across 29 key indicators of foodie-friendliness. The ranking is based on 29 metrics, including affordability and accessibility of restaurants.

“We determined each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order the cities in our sample. In determining our sample, we considered only the ‘city proper’ in each case and excluded surrounding cities in the metro area,” WalletHub explained.

Ranked 6th in restaurants per capita, D.C. is at 20th position when it comes to accessibility of highly-ranked restaurants. However, when it comes to restaurant affordability, the city has ranked much lower – at 146.

Portland, Oregon has topped the list of the Best Foodie Cities in America.

In 2016, Bon Appetit named D.C. its Restaurant City of the Year. The city was noted for having a growing number of young chefs and restaurants that were coming up in the neighborhoods.
