KIPP D.C. Promise Academy in the Benning Ridge neighborhood of Ward 7 has become one of only three schools in the district that have been awarded the 2018 National Blue Ribbon School title by the U.S. Department of Education.
The public charter elementary school was founded in 2009 and is KIPP DC’s oldest elementary school which has shown highest performance.
The National Blue Ribbon School awards are given to public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students show excellent academic record at high levels.
Since 1982, more than 8000 American schools have been selected for this prestigious award. In 2018, a total of 349 schools were chosen nationwide.
“There is not a team or a group of students more deserving of this award. Each and every student who walks through our doors feels special, challenged, cared for, and happy. Our staff’s hard work year after year has resulted in incredible achievements for our kids,” said Principal Erin Huseby.
“I am so proud that Promise is not only one of the best schools in Washington D.C., but one of the best schools in the countries,” she added.
