D.C. women-owned businesses and startups were granted on Thursday a financial assistance of over $50,000 by BEACON DC Initiative. BEACON awards grants to organizations that support women entrepreneurs, working towards making D.C. the most supportive ecosystem in the United States.

The grant winners were facilitated by BEACON DC in partnership with Mayor Muriel Bowser, Google and Georgetown Law’s Institute for Technology Law and Policy.

Twelve organizations and a community favorite were recognized and awarded with financial grants. The community favorite was also given a membership package of three-months at Hera Hub DC and a special recognition at the awards ceremony.

Among the BEACON DC 2018-19 grantees, $10,000 was awarded to FreeTruth Financial, Inc., and $5,000 each to Workafrolic, The GEMZ, Inc., Cureate, Latino Economic Development Center, SEED SPOT and Street Entrepreneurs.

EnrichHer, Halcyon, Hera Hub DC and The Outrage startups were each awarded $2,500. Blacks in Consulting and Technology was declared the Winner of Community Voting Round.

Last year, BEACON DC has also awarded 19 grants, totaling $50,000, to organizations that support women entrepreneurs by providing training, resources, and other support.
