Legionnaire’s Disease Outbreak at DC’s Senior Living Community

Officials from the D.C. Department of Health have identified a case of Legionnaire’s disease at Ingleside Rock Creek retirement community in Washington, AP has reported.

The disease is a kind of pneumonia which spreads after an individual inhales mist or vapor carrying Legionella bacteria. Antibiotics can successfully treat the patient.

The department has cautioned the retirement community residents against using water facilities till the sinks and showers are fitted with filters. Till then, the community residents are being supplied with bottled water, according to Franck Beech, the executive director of the community.

There has been no additional information on the condition of the infected resident. D.C.’s Water Utility Agency and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are at work to find out how the resident was infected with the disease, according to the D.C. Department of Health.
