Millennial Couples Likely to Find Homes in DC Wards 7 and 8 [Report]

An average Millennial couple with a family of four is more likely to find a home in D.C. Wards 7 and 8, according to a follow-up study by the D.C. Policy Center. The analytical reportWill Children of Millennials Become Future Public School Students, highlights areas of the district where the school-age population is likely to live.

According to the study,  an average Millennial couple can buy a house between $150,000 and $358,000 market value.

Looking at the 75th percentile of Millennial couples shows several areas in northeast and the central corridor that have single-family homes in an affordable price range. If families move to these areas in greater numbers and replace households without children, the school-age population in these neighborhoods would grow,” the report sid, adding that 24 percent of these homes are presently owned by senior citizens with a property tax exemption.

In 2015-2025, the school-age population is predicted to grow is likely to grow fastest in the north of the center of the city and to the far south, the report concluded.

The D.C. Policy Center report had revealed that the public school enrollment in D.C. is estimated to grow by as many as 21,100 students by 2026-2027, and half of this growth is likely to occur in middle and high school grades.
