DC Police ID Man Fatally Shot Near Nationals Park

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) identified the individual who was killed in a shooting near the Washington Nationals Park on Sunday.

The victim has been named as 31-year-old Kavaughn Washington of Oxon Hill, Maryland. 

The shooting took place on Van Street and N Street, which is in the immediate vicinity of the Nationals Park, around 1 pm on October 23. 

Washington was found with gunshot wounds inside his car, according to DC police. 

In a press conference held on Sunday, MPD officials stated that the incident was likely a targeted attack and a dark-colored SUV that escaped the scene was caught on camera after the shooting.

“It’s game day; I want everyone to feel comfortable coming here and enjoying this beautiful city, the restaurants, and watching the game,” said Commander Tasha Bryant of MPD during the press conference.
