The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) identified the individual who was killed in a shooting near the Washington Nationals Park on Sunday.

The victim has been named as 31-year-old Kavaughn Washington of Oxon Hill, Maryland.

The shooting took place on Van Street and N Street, which is in the immediate vicinity of the Nationals Park, around 1 pm on October 23.

Washington was found with gunshot wounds inside his car, according to DC police.

In a press conference held on Sunday, MPD officials stated that the incident was likely a targeted attack and a dark-colored SUV that escaped the scene was caught on camera after the shooting.

“It’s game day; I want everyone to feel comfortable coming here and enjoying this beautiful city, the restaurants, and watching the game,” said Commander Tasha Bryant of MPD during the press conference.

MPD calls on individuals who have information on the deadly shooting to reach out to the Department by calling (202) 727-9099 or texting 50411.
