A Metro train hit a person, leading to their death early Monday morning, it was announced.
The accident happened at Gallery Place near Chinatown Metro Station at 7th & H Street Northwest before 6 am, according to the DC Fire and EMS.
It caused delays in the train schedule in both directions. Trains started running on a single track on the Yellow and Green lines, between Mount Vernon Square and L’Enfant Plaza.
Riders were asked to use the Red Line as an alternate route to travel between Fort Totten and Gallery Place as trains are temporarily bypassing the station.

DC Fire and EMS partnered with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the Metro Transit Police Department to locate the victim.
“Sadly, it has been determined this is a recovery rather than a rescue,” said DC Fire and EMS in a tweet.
Metro Transit Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the person’s fall onto the tracks. Video footage that captured the incident reportedly shows that the victim seemed unsteady prior ro falling off the platform.
