The Washington Football Team announced last week that it is intending to return to full capacity at FedEx Field for the 2021 season.
There will still be safety and public health measures in place at the stadium, the team said in a press release on Thursday, May 6.
“As we have always said, the safety of our fans, employees, coaching staff and players is our top priority. We take our responsibility to create a safe return for fans very seriously, and we do so with the confidence and collaboration of our state and local public health authorities with whom we stay in constant contact to assure proper protocols are in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Jason Wright, President of the Washington Football Team.
“Following the 2020 season, our organization was praised for its infection control approaches, and we now endeavor to build on this track record by providing a safe and fun 2021 gameday experience for our fans, the best in all of football,” he continued.
We've made official our intention to welcome back fans to @FedExField for the 2021 season at full capacity.

The statement cited Maryland’s permit for outdoor venues to operate at 50 percent capacity, and several recent events held by the team at FedEx Field under strict COVID-19 safety guidelines, including WFT 2021 NFL Draft Night party and serving as a polling station for the Peruvian elections. Attendees were required to wear face coverings and practice proper social distancing during these events, according to the statement.
“I am hopeful that we can all come back to FedExField in the fall and watch our defending NFC East Champions make another playoff run. And just like the players on the field, we must all continue to work as a team off the field to make sure all of our neighbors and loved ones get vaccinated,” Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks was quoted by the club as saying.
FedEx Field can accommodate more than 80,000 viewers when it is operating at full capacity.
In honor of fans returning to FedExField this season, the team has waived all single-game ticket fees for the first 24 hours, starting at 8 pm on May 12, when the 2021 schedule is released.
