Woman Dies After Being Rescued From Potomac River, DC Fire Says

-

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) said a 31-year-old woman died after she was rescued from the Potomac River Monday evening.

Crews rescued the woman near Georgetown Park in the 3100 block K Street, Northwest, after arriving at the scene upon receiving reports about an adult female getting into the water and not resurfacing at around 5 pm.

First responders from DC, Arlington and Alexandria took part in a joint effort to save the woman’s life. She was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The woman was later identified as 31-year-old Yulia Vasylkevych, of W. Jefferson, Ohio.

Officials announced earlier in the day that the woman was in critical condition.

An investigation is still ongoing to determine Vasylkevych’s cause of death.
